According to PETA, each mink skinned by fur farmers produces around 44 pounds of feces which can lead up to 1 million pounds of feces produced annually. This waste is considered nearly 1,000 tons of phosphorus, which can wreak havoc on rivers and streams. Also about 8,000 pounds of ammonia is released into the atmosphere each year.

The tassle seems to be a Spring trend as a symbol of luxury. In hip-hop, rappers wore 'fitted' caps but now the trend seemed to change back to the old 80's style of 'snapbacks'. Artists such as Chris Brown have gotten recognition in the fact that he started to wear snapbacks a lot which brought an appeal to the youth of streetwear to wear snapbacks as well.

Michael Jordan is an iconic figure in a sense that he revolutionized basketball not only on his talent but the shoes that he wore (Air Jordans). Being adopted into streetwear style, the shoes have gotten iconic fame due to the fact that Jordan is the best basketball player in the world, shoes defied the rules of the NBA and the Air Jordans were stylish compared to the shoes other players wore at that time.

Kanye West as a status symbol of fashion and music has a voice in influencing the younger generation. First came in the form of street wear accessories where he seemed to bring back an old classic which is the G-Shock watch, first worn in the Stronger video. Also, he was seen wearing a lot of jean jackets in public and even though he may not have brought the style back, he sure inspired younger kids who love his adopted sense of style and music to copy the trend.

This article refers to cadmium (a toxic chemical element) being found in jewelry such as Miley Cyrus' collection and how "FJATA is disapointed that the Associated Press story on cadmium in Miley Cyrus jewelry once again omitted the important fact that safe levels of cadmium have existed in fashion and fine jewelry (both adult and children's jewelry) for decades." The Associated Press story claims that the safety of jewelry should be based on the level of cadmium in an industy position. Although there are disputes back and forth regarding the issue about jewelry, FJATA is on board with the safety of jewelry for children and adults alike because "Safety is the number one concern of the fashion jewelry industry."

The reason why I chose this article is because jewelry (accessories) is important to consumers to finish the entire wardrobe for that day. Accessories has played a significant role where designers have realized the increasing demand for different types of accessories because they are the basic finishing touches to a person's unique style and individuality. Jewelry can contain different types of elements from metal to wood so the product being made has to be carefully designed and conducted properly to be able to wear by the consumer. With proper implications and precautions taken place, the product (from the maker to the consumer) can have the importance it serves to a person's dress and fashion as a whole.

"Alexander McQueen's Last Collection Shown During Paris

This article refers to Alexander McQueen and his collection that was shown during Paris Fashion Week. The collection was named "Angels and Demons" which was inspired by Medievil art and the Dark Ages. All the different garments in that collection referred back to that fashion period where McQueen used influences such as Bosch demons and church angels to better enhance his creativity and look that he was acquiring for his specific collection before his untimely death. McQueen was known for his dramatic fashion shows and this was no exception.

The reason why I chose this article is because Alexander McQueen is one of my favorite high-end or name designers because his mentality of "I don't care" really influences me to the point where I am able to gain better insight into the creativity and personality that he puts in every aspect of work that he does. He said that he is able to release an entire collection in one day because his mind is like a water tank and once it gets filled up, all the ideas and imagination just starts pouring out and overflows. McQueen's use of digital prints on his clothes can't be matched and the themes and influences behind each individual collection and the runway show that showcases that collection is unique in that he is the only one to go to that level of "dramatic" and sometimes even beyond. McQueen is an iconic fashion designer and will be missed in the fashion industry. A huge pie of the fashion circle is missing and can thus, can never be filled nor replaced.

This article basically explains how fur can be an essential fabric used to create a luxurious wardrobe. Different types of fur is named such as sable, fox, and mink where each specific type of fur gives the brief description of its origin and how it can specifically work on a typical lavish article of clothing. For example, mink creates a lavish look on a wardrobe because the fur is stunning to look at and there is no discrepancy when it comes to varying hair lengths, which can give it a smooth finish. Each type of fur is given insight to how it can be an "essential piece that helps complete any feminine wardrobe."

The reason why I chose this article is because even though fur may look nice to an extent, I am totally against the use of fur on clothes. Fur can be used in fashion and on the runway where designers like Karl Lagerfeld can embrace fur, or designers like Stella McCartney can be against using fur in collections. Although fur is not shy in the fashion world, I am against the use of fur on clothes because of the process and production which comes before and after. People don't quite know how animals are treated and the process it takes for fur to actually turn into clothes but the use of fur is a considerable lavish part of the fashion industry. Groups like PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have battled against fur in fashion where they believe animals have rights just as much as humans and how wearing animal fur is cruel and inhumane. Some collections don't use fur because they believe in this so they turn to faux fur which is fake fur. Although fur may cause some heads to turn, it doesn't deny the fact that it has become a renewed fashion interest which is debatable on either side of those who are and aren't aboard using fur in fashion.

This article explains how Prada will be opening a retail store in South Coast Plaza on May 4. The 5,070 square foot boutique will be located in the mall's Jewel Court and will be catering to private appointments on May 1. The store will be selling the fashion house's ready-to-wear,accessories,shoes, and some exclusive products for both men and women. The entrances are framed by a luminous, polycarbonate curtain and a pastel, green canvas lines the walls of the store. The women's section and men's section are specially catered with specific furnishings and decorations for a luxurious retail look, which Prada is generally focused on.

The reason why I chose this article is because it reflects upon the idea of the Horizontal-Flow Theory. This theory claims that fashions move horizontally between groups on similar social levels rather than vertically from one level to another. The theory of horizontal fashion movement has great significance for merchandising. It points out the fallacy of assuming that there is a single, homogeneous fashion public, which is true for the South Coast Plaza mall. Since South Coast Plaza caters to all different social groups with different social standings, there is an enormous array of different retail stores with different styles that consumers desire. If a consumer was to shop at Prada, it doesn't necessarily mean that it would give influence for another consumer to purchase an item at Prada as well. Unlike the other theories in Ch.4, the Horizontal-Flow Theory goes across a horizontal access where social groups don't influence or clash with one another. Also this theory recognizes that what wealthy society people are wearing today is not necessarily what middle-class suburbanites, college students, or office workers will either wear tomorrow or wait until tomorrow to accept.

Examples would include 'incredible one-of-a-kind dresses from Geminola and the Some Odd Rubies crew. Wonderful vintage jewelry that the buyers found in a Paris flea market from House of Woolch.'

The reason why I chose this article is that it reflects upon the idea of demographics,geographics and target markets. As demographics include factors such as age, sex, famiy size and income, these factors can conclude the shopping habits at the Anthropologie store in NYC's Chelsea Market. Anthropologie is a retailer of high end women's clothing which was designed to appeal to 30-to-40-something affluent professional women with a total family annual income above $200,000. Chelsea Market is a great nest for Anthropologie to settle because Chelsea Market caters to the women and their families that live around that geographic where women who shop for food can also shop for clothes as well. Since Manhattan's Chelsea Market caters more towards the older individuals rather than trendy teens, the opening of the new Anthropologie store can create target markets for those older women who the business is attempting to turn the idea of potential customers into regular customers.

Hugo Boss is a German fashion designer who became widely famous for high-end mens and womens wear where each group had specific garments that highlighted his expertise. In the article, Mithran B shows examples of different names of Hugo Boss suits and the purpose each suit represents. For example, the 'Boss Black Two Button Cotton Suit' was a lighter texture so it allowed the individual to wear it comfortably on warm weathers while still having that constructive men's appeal.

The reason why I chose this article is Hugo Boss is famous in the area of menswear because his suits are widely known. Hugo Boss allows the person who decides to wear his line to be comfortable, yet flashy where the individual can perceive to the desired look they are hoping for in different ways. The style is unique to each individual because the look is unique. Just like it states in the article, each suit is prepared to give you a purpose and a look and that is one of the many reasons why Hugo Boss' suits, in my opinion, are particular in men's fashion and is on another level of creativity.

American apparel's sexual controversial ads are among some of the best in the industry because it promotes the products by using models as "real girls". American apparel displays subjects with their imperfections and asymmetrical figures where the general public intended (teens) can relate to the subject, which in turn can draw them towards the product. The models used are attractive but they aren't regarded as high caliber because they look like regular teen girls who you would see at school or what not. The sole reason for their ads being so racy, is to suggest humanism (but that's just my opinion).

This simple quote is what the fashion industry is all about. Presenting current or possible trends is what attracts consumers and what gives the motivation of those consumers to purchase your product. In the article it states that Abercrombie and Fitch were the ones who missed out on trends which led to a downturn. Seeing how the key demographic for Abercrombie and Fitch are 18-22 yr olds, it seems like if the company isn't producing trends then obviously the consuming public won't respond the way you want it to. Most 18-22 yr olds shop either for luxury or necessity but the fact is that they all shop and if Abercrombie and Fitch doesn't produce the "trendy" trends happening at that particular time then the obvious consumer behavior is that they will most likely shop at a different store which has the trends and are available.

But on a side note, Abercrombie and Fitch is known to be a store which is always in trend because the consuming public are teens. The article is also stating that fashion is risk and if a store such as Abercrombie and Fitch is always following trends, consumers might shop somewhere else which carry trends and cheaper in price as well. Remember that clothing stores compete with one another depending on that specific demographic by the means of trends and PRICES.
